In a heartfelt video shared on November 10, 2025, British TikTok influencer Brittany Miller, who boasts over 3.5 million followers, publicly apologized for falsely claiming in 2017 that she had cancer.
Miller revealed that during a period of severe mental health crisis marked by depression, suicidal thoughts and significant personal losses, including the end of a relationship and the loss of a job she told someone close to her that she had been diagnosed with the illness. She described the lie as “one stupid sentence that I deeply regret.”
While emphasising that there was no long-running scam or malicious intention behind her false claim, Miller admitted that a fundraising page was created in her name, which she quickly shut down once she realised it had received donations, stating that she did not take a penny from it.
She insisted that the episode occurred years before her social-media rise and was not a bid for likes or followers. Miller stressed that her conduct was rooted in desperation rather than defrauding her audience, and she expressed deep remorse for any harm caused especially to those who truly fight cancer.
In the video, Miller thanked her partner Ash Griffiths for his support during her recovery, and said she now hopes to advocate for mental-health awareness, drawing on her own experiences to help others.
The outpouring of responses online was swift. Many followers expressed sadness and disillusionment at the revelation, while others responded with sympathy after learning about Miller’s mental-health struggles at the time. The incident reignites conversation about influencer accountability, the ethics of crowdfunding, mental-health stigma and the boundary between personal vulnerability and public persona.
